FIA Arrests Passenger in Multan for Carrying Thousands of Foreign SIM Cards
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Multan apprehended a passenger carrying a massive stash of foreign SIM cards, raising concerns about potential cyber-related crimes. The suspect, identified as Muhammad Zohaib, arrived at Multan International Airport from the United Kingdom on Qatar Airways flight QR-618.
Upon inspecting his luggage, authorities discovered a staggering 6,700 foreign SIM cards concealed within his belongings. The FIA immediately took action, seizing the SIM cards and transferring the case to its cybercrime unit for further investigation.
The incident has sparked serious concerns regarding the intended use of these SIM cards, as such illegal imports are often linked to fraudulent activities, identity theft, and digital crimes. The FIA has initiated legal proceedings under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, which regulates cyber offenses in Pakistan. Officials are now investigating whether the SIM cards were meant for a larger criminal network or for financial scams and other illicit activities.
Using unauthorized foreign SIMs poses a significant security risk, as they can be exploited for bypassing tracking systems, facilitating illegal communications, and conducting financial fraud. Law enforcement agencies are now tightening security measures to curb such activities and prevent similar incidents in the future.
This case highlights the growing challenge of digital crime and the importance of strict border controls to prevent illegal technological imports. The FIA is expected to release further details as the investigation progresses.
