Rising tensions in Islamabad, the government, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have launched apparently behind-the-scenes negotiations to stop the continuous party demonstrations. The answer of PTI will decide whether or not the idea to move the demonstration to Sangjani, on the outskirts of the capital, comes true, therefore adding uncertainty to an already stressful scenario.
The government suggests numerous locations among strong disputes
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi suggested PTI change their demonstration to Sangjani in an attempt to chill Islamabad. The idea surfaced as demonstrators dashing against police created a disturbance on the fringes of the city. Policies of the government aim to balance public safety with political speech.
Still all the same, PTI’s leadership has been lacking clarity. Late Monday night, party officials allegedly visited Imran Khan, their imprisoned founder, to discuss the plan but left without public comments.
“No Withdrawal,” Imran Khan says, activists fervent
Apparently holding weapons snatched from retiring police, some PTI supporters have assembled for a demonstration. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan alleged following his session with Imran Khan in Adiala Jail that the former prime minister had turned down any recommendations on leaving the protest movement.
Still up for discussion is whether PTI leaders might persuade Bushra Bibi, in charge of a big protest caravan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to rethink the location change.
Government warns: “Violence Will Be Met with Iron Fist”
Any more violence would set Interior Minister Naqvi in a sharp reaction in a harsh note. The administration is ready to call for a curfew or even apply Article 245, therefore enabling the armed forces to be dispatched to preserve peace.
Leniency would not be granted to protestors who disrupt peace, the minister underlined, a point of view maintained by other government officials engaged in the back-channel conversations.
Blame Game on the Death of a Police Officer
Constable Mubashir’s death marked a turning point in the political struggle as hostilities descended lethal. Declaring the murder heinous, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised justice for the dead officer and sympathy for his bereaved family. Claiming to be part of a nonviolent march, he attacked PTI activists advocating violence.
Shehbaz Sharif decried the way chaos and lawlessness veer Pakistan’s path every time it advances. To maintain peace and order, his government is still dedicated to eradicating what he called “miscreants”.
PTI Denies Negotiations; Activists “At Islamabad’s Doorsteps”
PTI officials denied any back-channel discussions while the government mentioned constant negotiations. PTI spokesman Raoof Hasan claims that the protesters are tenacious and ready to arrive on their terms in Islamabad.
Among the chaos are foreign investors, worried about it. Spokesperson Matthew Miller of the US State Department recommended everyone to use moderation. He underlined the significance of appreciating the Pakistani constitutional framework and human rights.
Islamabad is getting ready for a historic day while both sides disguise themselves. Moreover not clear is whether the PTI would support the government’s idea. The current standoff highlights the extreme political differences endangering Pakistan’s stability.
