According to the World Justice Project’s (WJP) Rule of Law Index for 2024, Pakistan has shown a slight improvement compared to 2023, but continues to struggle in key areas such as civil and criminal justice, fundamental rights, corruption, open government, regulatory enforcement, and overall security as Pakistan Ranked 129th Worldwide.
The WJP’s Index offers a critical assessment of Pakistan’s justice system and governance, especially amid ongoing public disputes among the country’s top judiciary. The report ranks Pakistan 129th out of 142 countries globally, a slight improvement from its position of 130th in 2023. Despite this small gain, Pakistan remains fifth out of six countries in its regional ranking. The index reveals that Pakistan’s Rule of Law score improved between 2015 and 2018, but has steadily declined from 2019 to 2023. However, in 2024, the country marks its first positive shift in Rule of Law after five years of downward trends.
The Rule of Law Index assesses countries based on factors like limitations on government power, corruption levels, open governance, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, and both civil and criminal justice.
