Lahore is abuzz with color, culture, and celebration as final preparations for the ‘Lahore Basant Festival 2025’ are being finalized. The festival, to be celebrated between February 6-8, will include flights of colorful kites in the sky, gatherings in parks, and a safety program.

After several years of restrictions and deliberate discussions, the government now seems to strike a balance between a never-loved cultural event and security. With final preparations in place, Basant is on the cusp of a rebirth as it was meant to be.

Areas Where Basant Is Allowed in Lahore

According to official sources, some of the main Lahore parks that have been identified as Basant locations are:

• Greater Iqbal Park
• Jallo Park
• Jilani Park
• Gulshan Iqbal Park
• Model Town Park

Additionally, the organizers are also considering limited celebrations of Basant in some parts of the Walled City to regain the festivities’ historical essence.

This ensures that kite flying activities remain within designated spots to facilitate crowd control.

Ensuring Safe Kites with Safe Kite Strings

One of the founding pillars of this year’s plan is the complete prohibition on the use of metallic strings, wire strings, and chemically coated kite strings. This is mainly because these strings have previously resulted in severe injuries and deaths.

Weaker glass-coated strings and normal strings made of manja only will be permitted. Strict legal action will be taken for any violations.

As a measure to check such illegal practices, the government is offering a reward of Rs. 5,000 to anyone who informs it about the usage of such banned string materials.

Advanced Monitoring and Security

Special monitoring teams will be present during the festival. These teams include kite-, monitor-, and action teams that will monitor the zones. The arrangements and plans related to security are being finalized to ensure that a safe Basant experience is provided to families and visitors.
