Is there a moment in our lives when we are actually doing nothing? No contemplating, no scrolling literally blocked every though wiggling in the spotlight. Tough one right! It seems impossible to clear our headspace. Our brains are overstimulated with anxiety in this constant race to tick all the boxes. Unfortunately we associate being busy with being productive. There’s a pace in today’s world that drains us physically mentally, and emotionally. In our pursuit of efficiency we often sideline what matters the most. Gratitude suffers the most this constant race against time. We just don’t see what we truly have and need as it has been said to truly connect with yourself and God, moments of pause are essential. When we experience solitude we are not alone.
Unplug
The first thing we do once we get up is check our phones, switch on the TV, or find a way to connect to the world. We engage our brains in endless modes of engagement. Do we have time to listen to ourselves? Do we have time to comprehend the millions of thoughts running in our heads? It’s imperative to dedicate some time by switching off all sorts of devices. Take a long unwind, or just sit silently — we will see life has more to offer. Life is not about a constant race or noise, but about pausing to soak in the tiny things around us and nurturing our soul with them.
Gratitude
Every morning, list ten things you’re grateful for. If not ten, list five or even three—just begin by doing this. Gratitude changes your frequency; it sets your tune for the day. You will realize there are so many things you take for granted. For instance, you will value your health the day you are diagnosed with a disease. If you’re overwhelmed with work and you hate your job, just realize your everyday monotonous work is somebody’s dream job. The mess around the house that’s frustrating you—just realize these tiny footsteps won’t be here forever. Pause and look around—there are so many things for you to be grateful for.
Journaling
Journaling is more than just writing—it’s a powerful mental health and productivity tool. Reduces stress, enable mindfulness, track behavioral patterns and mental triggers. Jot down everything you feel and you will have a clear perspective. Journaling helps increase self-awareness by 85%, as it encourages reflection and mindful thought, according to Psychology Today. Journaling gives you clear insights of what goals you plan to attain. Many celebrities around the world like Oprah Winfrey, Emma Watson, and Christina Aguilera have spoken publicly about their journaling.
