Punjab Implements 60 km/h Speed Limit for Motorcyclists to Ensure Road Safety

In a major step toward enhancing road safety and managing traffic flow, the Punjab government has set a maximum speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour for motorcyclists throughout the province. This decision was approved during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari expressed concern over the increasing number of road fatalities caused by speeding. “It is heartbreaking to see lives lost due to overspeeding,” she stated, stressing the importance of safety regulations for the public.

To ensure the implementation of the new speed limit, the government will take strict enforcement measures, with Minister Bukhari confirming that motorcycles will not be allowed to exceed the 60 km/h speed limit.

Additionally, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has begun the construction of separate bike lanes in the city to improve safety for motorcyclists. The first phase of this project includes a dedicated bike lane on Ferozepur Road. Chief Minister Nawaz stated, “Separate bike lanes will be built on all major roads across the districts to prevent accidents and facilitate smoother traffic flow.”

The LDA’s engineering wing has already completed a feasibility study and is working on designing the project. The initial phase will include lanes on three key roads in Lahore, specifically from Kalma Chowk to Siddique Trade Center, Canal Road to Lahore Bridge, and another road that is yet to be finalized. These lanes will be constructed according to modern standards, with proper signage and specific road surfacing to ensure safe and smooth traffic movement.
