The Supreme Court of Pakistan orders a medical board for Imran Khan Eye Exam and Family Call
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has stepped in over concerns about Imran Khan’s eyesight. Judges ordered a special medical board to examine the former prime minister’s eyes after reports said his vision was getting worse. They also told prison officials to let Khan call his sons before February 16, 2026.
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan heard the case in Islamabad, focusing on how Khan is doing health-wise and what conditions he’s living in at Adiala Jail.
Medical evidence in court painted a worrying picture: Khan has just 15 percent vision left in his right eye. Barrister Salman Safdar, speaking for the court, said Khan’s eyes worked fine until late October 2025. Then things went downhill fast — blurred vision, haze, and steady decline.
The judges made it clear: set up an independent board to check Khan’s eyes, get the exam done by February 16, and don’t drag your feet. But they denied the request for family to be present during the medical exam, saying they wanted to keep things proper and transparent.
Health wasn’t the only thing on the court’s mind. They also stressed the need for basic decency, ordering that Khan be allowed to talk to his sons, Kasim and Sulaiman, by phone before the deadline. The judges called family contact a basic right, especially for someone in jail, and pointed out that staying in touch helps with overall well-being.
Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan told the court he’d make sure the orders were carried out, including both the medical exam and the phone calls.
All of this is happening while legal battles around Khan continue. With growing attention on how political prisoners are treated, the Supreme Court’s move stands out. It shows the judges are watching closely and expect the rules to be followed — not just in court, but in the prison hospital too.
