Swedish Prosecutor Closes Investigation into Alleged Assault Involving Kylian Mbappé
An investigation into alleged rape and sexual assault in Stockholm, which Swedish media linked to French football star Kylian Mbappé, has been closed due to insufficient evidence. The Swedish prosecutor announced on Thursday that the case, which had been under investigation since October, would not proceed. The alleged incident took place on October 10 at an upscale Stockholm hotel, but the prosecutor emphasized that there was not enough evidence to move forward with the case.
Details of the Case and Mbappé’s Response
Kylian Mbappé, who was in Stockholm between October 9-11 with a group of people after being excluded from France’s Nations League match, had his name linked to the investigation by several Swedish media outlets, including Aftonbladet, Expressen, and SVT. The alleged victim reportedly sought medical attention on October 12, prompting a police investigation. According to Aftonbladet, Mbappé and his entourage had dined at a restaurant and later visited a nightclub before the incident occurred at the hotel.
Sweden’s prosecution authority confirmed that no formal charges were filed, and that the suspect—who had not been named in official statements—had not been notified of any criminal suspicion. Prosecutor Marina Chirakova explained that the investigation was closed because the evidence was deemed insufficient to proceed with the case. In her statement, she clarified that the investigation did not implicate Kylian Mbappé directly.
Kylian Mbappé himself responded to the allegations in October, expressing shock at being linked to the case. Speaking on French television show Clique, he firmly denied any involvement in the incident. “I haven’t received anything, no summons… I’m not involved,” Mbappé said, addressing the accusations for the first time publicly.
The Swedish authorities also reported that some items of clothing, including women’s underwear and black trousers, were seized as evidence, but no charges were filed. With the closure of the investigation, Kylian Mbappé has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
