South Africa Edge Pakistan to Win and Reach WTC Final

South Africa Edge Pakistan in Thrilling Test Victory to Book World Test Championship Final Spot

In a dramatic finish at Centurion, South Africa managed to edge Pakistan by just two wickets in the thrilling first Test. This victory not only clinched the series opener but also secured South Africa’s place in the 2024 World Test Championship final, to be held at Lord’s in June. Fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen became the unexpected heroes with the bat, steering the Proteas to a sensational finish.

    A Dramatic Test Match Finish

The match unfolded like a Twenty20 game, with fast bowlers Rabada and Jansen putting together a match-winning 51-run partnership off just 50 balls. Rabada, often known for his pace rather than his batting prowess, scored a vital 31, while Jansen’s composed 16 runs guided South Africa to a memorable victory. Their partnership helped South Africa overcome a near-collapse, where Pakistan was on the verge of a remarkable comeback.

Abbas’ Heroics Almost Hand Pakistan Victory

Pakistan’s Mohammed Abbas, who made a strong return after a three-year absence, was the main architect behind South Africa’s mid-innings collapse. Abbas took a remarkable 6-54, including four wickets in a spell of 13 consecutive overs before lunch. His efforts reduced South Africa from a commanding 96-4 to 99-8. He bowled out key players like captain Temba Bavuma, who was dismissed controversially, as well as Aiden Markram and David Bedingham. Despite Abbas’ heroics, South Africa’s tailenders held their ground to secure the win.

    South Africa’s Winning Streak Continues

This victory marked South Africa’s sixth consecutive Test win, following a dominant run in the West Indies, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. With their place in the World Test Championship final now secured, they will face Pakistan again in the second Test at Newlands next Friday, looking to extend their winning streak. The Proteas have proven they can handle pressure, with fast bowlers Rabada and Jansen delivering when it mattered most, sealing a thrilling win and cementing their place at Lord’s in June.

South Africa Edge Pakistan in this dramatic contest, securing their spot in the World Test Championship final and keeping their momentum high.
