Fact Check: MWM Protesters’ Slogans Misrepresented

Viral Video Misleads: MWM Protesters Were Not Chanting Anti-Pakistan Slogans

A viral video circulating on social media claims to show Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) protestors chanting anti-Pakistan slogans during a recent protest in Karachi. The video, widely shared on social media, sparked heated discussions and calls for action against the religiopolitical group. However, upon closer inspection, it is clear that the chants were directed at the United States, not Pakistan.

The Truth Behind the MWM Protest Chanting

The MWM had staged sit-ins across Karachi from December 24, drawing attention to the violence in Parachinar and Kurram district. The protests concluded on Wednesday with a peace agreement between conflicting factions in Kurram. Throughout the protests, some clashes with police had occurred, but the video in question was part of a larger narrative that wrongly accused MWM supporters of chanting anti-Pakistan slogans.

The viral post shared by a pro-PMLN account claimed the video showed MWM protesters chanting “Pakistan Murdabad” (death to Pakistan). However, upon examining the footage, it is clear that the protesters were chanting “America Murdabad” (death to America), with slogans like “Whoever is a friend of America is a traitor” also heard in the background.

Setting the Record Straight: The Fabrication of Anti-Pakistan Allegations

The claim that MWM protesters were chanting anti-Pakistan slogans is false and misleading. The video, which gained significant traction, was misrepresented to incite division and hatred. There was no mention of anti-state rhetoric, and the slogans were solely directed at America. This misinformation was a deliberate attempt to create political and sectarian tension.

In conclusion, the viral video does not show MWM supporters chanting anti-Pakistan slogans. Instead, it clearly reveals a protest focused on denouncing U.S. influence, showing that the allegations against the group were fabricated.
