    A Record-Breaking Feat of Engineering

The Mohmand Dam, Pakistan’s tallest concrete-face rock-fill dam (CFRD) and the world’s fifth tallest, stands as a testament to the nation’s engineering prowess. With a storage capacity of 1.29 million acre-feet (MAF), the dam will not only serve as a reservoir but also bring transformative benefits to the area.

    Transforming Agriculture and Energy

The dam will irrigate 18,237 acres of new farmland, enhancing agricultural productivity while supplementing existing irrigation systems. In addition, it will generate 800 MW of clean, renewable energy a significant step toward mitigating the country’s energy crisis.

    Securing Peshawar’s Water Supply

A major benefit of the Mohmand Dam is the fact that it can provide Peshawar with 300 million gallons of pure clean drinking water per day. It meets the rising demand of Peshawar city for a sustainable supply of pure water.

    Financial and Environmental Benefits

With an estimated annual economic value of Rs51.6 billion, the dam will have a positive impact on the local and national economies. Furthermore, it will help significantly in controlling floods in the region and diminish the threat of floods, which cause devastating destruction during the rainy season.

Progress Update: On Track for Success

Chairman WAPDA, Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd), recently visited the site to review construction progress at critical locations such as the main dam, diversion tunnels, spillway, and powerhouse. The visit included a progress review meeting to ensure all operations are aligned with the projected timeline. Ongoing activities comprise excavation, concrete works, and tunnel development; rapid advancement has been shown on different components of the dam. Management is unwavering on time delivery in meeting deadlines so as to bring out maximum benefits for the project.
