Gen. Munir’s Address at Margalla Dialogue 2024
During the special session of the Margalla Dialogue 2024 in Islamabad, Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir discussed “Pakistan’s Role in Peace and Stability,”. He emphasized the country’s notable accomplishments in fostering regional harmony and global peace, as reported by Express News.
The Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) organized the special session of the Margalla Dialogue 2024. During this session, the Army Chief highlighted that the world has encountered numerous challenges in recent years. Particularly the swift dissemination of false and misleading information. He also highlighted that, in the midst of various global changes, the increasing impact of non-state actors presents another major challenge.
Global Changes and Rising Terrorism
He observed that significant changes are happening worldwide in the economy, military, and technology. Violent non-state actors and state-sponsored terrorism are major challenges that the world is currently facing.
Impact of Technology on Misinformation
The army chief noted that while technology is essential for sharing information. That led to the dissemination of misleading and false information, which is a significant concern.
He also mentioned that without solid laws and regulations, misinformation and hate speech will keep messing with our political and social systems.
The absence of rules and regulations around freedom of expression is causing a decline in moral values across all societies. Gen. Munir stated that, on a global scale, inequality, intolerance, and divisions are rising based on religious, sectarian, and ethnic lines.
Pakistan’s Role in Combating Global Issues
During the event, General Syed Asim Munir stated that ‘our common goals involve addressing climate change, fighting terrorism, and tackling global health issues.’ Pakistan is playing an important role in fostering peace and stability, both in the region and around the world. Terrorism is a global challenge that affects us all, and our commitment to combating it is strong and steadfast.
In discussing the border situation, he mentioned that a thorough border management system has been put in place to ensure the security of our western borders.
Pakistan’s Expectations from Afghan Interim Government
Pakistan anticipates that the Afghan interim government will take action to stop terrorists from using Afghan territory and implement strict measures to address this issue, he added.
Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad aims to eradicate terrorism and extremism.
The Chief of Army Staff mentioned that Radd-ul-Fasaad is a crucial component of the National Action Plan, focused on eliminating terrorism and extremism.
India’s Extremist Ideology and Minority Safety
Because of India’s extremist ideology, minorities face safety concerns abroad, especially in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. He further added that New Delhi’s actions in Indian-illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. It reflect a continuation of its Hindutva ideology and policies.
Addressing the Kashmir and Palestine Issue
Pakistan has consistently backed the establishment of a free Palestinian state.
General Asim Munir highlighted the importance of addressing the Kashmir issue in line with United Nations resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
He pointed out that Pakistan has consistently advocated a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon. While also providing humanitarian aid to both regions on several occasions.
The army chief stated, ‘Pakistan has consistently supported the creation of an independent Palestinian state.’
The army chief stated that Pakistan will not engage in any global conflicts. It will keep working towards global peace and stability.
Pakistan’s Contribution to International Peacekeeping Missions
He pointed out that, for the sake of international peace, 235,000 Pakistanis have participated in United Nations peacekeeping missions, and 181 Pakistanis have sacrificed their lives for global peace in these efforts.
General Syed Asim Munir emphasized that Pakistan is home to 240 million individuals. In which around 63% of the population being under 30 years old. He also highlighted that the country is rich in natural resources and has established itself as a prominent agricultural producer on the global stage. The country has substantial deposits of rare minerals and plays an important role on the global stage in freelancing.
Pakistan’s Natural Resources and Global Significance
He mentioned that because of its abundant resources, distinct geographical position, and seaports. Pakistan plays a key role in trade with Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East. The Army Chief stated that Pakistan will consistently play a positive role in promoting regional and global peace.
