LONDON – On Saturday, Nawaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister and President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), denounced the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s November 24 protest. He said:
It is an attempt to destabilize the country. He referred to the protest call as “false propaganda” and accused its organizers of disseminating misinformation.
Before departing for Pakistan with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and other PML-N officials, Sharif addressed the media outside Avenfield House in London and declared, “Those behind this protest call will not succeed.”
Dr. Adnan and Junaid Safdar accompanied the former premier on his return to Pakistan.
The founding chairman of PTI, Imran Khan, has issued a call for a protest march to Islamabad on November 24. Aleema Khan, Khan’s sister, has announced that Khan has issued a final call to action. She encouraged all supporters to mobilize across the country. When she addressed the media outside Adiala Jail following her meeting with her brother, she stated, “You exercised your constitutional rights and incited a revolution on February 8.” You achieved power by reclaiming it from the elite. Moreover, on February 9, you secured the entire mandate. Imran expressed his dissatisfaction with what he perceived as ballot robbery, alleging the transfer of power to a small group.
“We could effect positive change if our government were not disrupted” Nawaz stated during his media interview. He criticized the PTI, asserting that the party “did nothing but damage Pakistan’s reputation.”
“What wrongs did the PTI founder commit against us in collaboration with Qamar Bajwa and Faiz Hameed?” he inquired, alluding to the former army chief and intelligence chief.
Nawaz Sharif arrived in the United Kingdom on October 26 and subsequently traveled to the United States two days later. On November 12, he and his daughter Maryam Nawaz returned to London from a trip to Europe.
In a previous media address, Nawaz Sharif expressed confidence in Pakistan’s economic recovery. He attributed the progress to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts. “He spared no effort to rescue the nation from the economic crisis,” Nawaz stated. Nawaz also stated that the PML-N recognizes the economic obstacles the public faces and it is committed to alleviating the impact of inflation and rising power bills.
