Shubman Gill surpassed Hashim Amla to become the fastest batter to reach 2500 runs in One Day Internationals. He achieved this milestone in just 50 innings.
India’s opener and vice-captain Shubman Gill set the record on Wednesday. He surpassed former South African cricketer Hashim Amla’s previous benchmark.
Playing his 50th ODI against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gill reached the landmark in the 10th over. He drove a boundary off Gus Atkinson.

Amla had previously achieved the feat in his 53rd ODI innings. Gill, 25, has been in exceptional form throughout the series.
He scored 87 runs in the first ODI in Nagpur on February 6. In the second match in Cuttack on February 9, he added 60 runs.
In the third ODI, Gill scored 111 runs off 102 balls before being dismissed by Adil Rashid. His consistency has been remarkable.
With an ODI average exceeding 60, he aims to capitalize on his strong form. India looks to complete a series sweep before heading to Dubai.
Ahead of this match, Gill also climbed to No. 2 in the ICC ODI batting rankings. He surpassed India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, in the standings.
Gill now has 781 rating points, while Rohit stands at 773. Pakistan’s Babar Azam remains the No. 1 ODI batter with 786 points.
Babar, 30, is also nearing a major milestone. He needs 33 runs in Pakistan’s ODI against South Africa to reach 6000 ODI runs fastest.
Shubman Gill made his ODI debut for India on January 31, 2019. The match took place against New Zealand at Seddon Park, Hamilton.
