ICC Imposes Heavy Fines on Shaheen Shah Afridi and Two Other Pakistani Players

Pakistani cricketers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Saud Shakeel, and Kamran Ghulam were fined on Wednesday for violating ICC’s Code of Conduct. They committed a Level 1 offense during the Tri-Nation Series match against South Africa.

According to details, Shaheen Shah Afridi was fined 25% of his match fee. He violated Article 2.12 of the ICC Code, which pertains to “inappropriate physical contact with a player, umpire, or other person during an international match.”

The incident occurred in the 28th over of South Africa’s innings. Shaheen deliberately made physical contact with Matthew Breetzke while Breetzke was attempting a run, leading to a brief altercation on the field.

Similarly, Saud Shakeel and substitute fielder Kamran Ghulam were fined 10% of their match fee for celebrating too closely after South African batsman Temba Bavuma was run out. Their excessive celebration was deemed inappropriate.

Saud and Kamran were found guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This rule prohibits actions or words that can provoke an opposing player after their dismissal. Such behavior is considered unsportsmanlike.

Additionally, a demerit point has been added to the disciplinary records of all three players. They had no prior offenses recorded in the last 24 months. This penalty serves as a warning for future conduct in international matches.

All three players admitted their mistake and accepted the penalty suggested by match referee David Boon. As a result, a formal hearing was not required. Their cooperation ensured a swift resolution of the matter.
