Rawalpindi-based Anti-Terrorism Court ordered to unfreeze the bank accounts of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust and Namal University due to mistaken identity of Aleema Khan CNIC
In a significant legal development, the Rawalpindi-based Anti-Terrorism Court has ordered the unfreezing of the bank accounts of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust and Namal University. The accounts had unexpectedly been frozen because of a shocking and rather avoidable error-an identity mix-up relating to the CNIC number of Aleema Khan.
The prosecution made no objections to the request for unfreezing, and therefore, the case was able to be wrapped up quickly. This decision brings much-needed clarity for both institutions and puts an end to a moment of unexpected financial disruption.
How a CNIC Mix-up Sparked a Financial Blockade
According to case details, the issue cropped up when some documents inadvertently tagged Aleema Khan’s CNIC with financial holdings related to SKMT and Namal University. The clerical mess led the authorities to freeze the accounts, which raised an alarm among the stakeholders in no time.
Fortunately, the mistake was caught in time. Lawyers motioned the court to rectify the record, to which the ATC responded with a lifting of the freeze. Smooth proceedings, along with the consent of the prosecution, ensured that normalcy was restored in record time.
SKMT: Services Never Stopped, Even for a Moment
Despite the disruption, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust confirmed that its operations continued seamlessly. Most of its accounts were never affected, and the essential patient care at their state-of-the-art cancer hospitals continues uninterrupted.
SKMT was founded by the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Khan. It has operationalized two major cancer hospitals, so far in Lahore and Peshawar. A third, highly anticipated facility is under development in Karachi-a project expected to greatly enhance treatment capacity for cancers in Pakistan.
Because this is an institution serving millions irrespective of financial ability, its uninterrupted service is not up for negotiation. The announcement by the Trust therefore brought immediate assurance to patients, donors, and supporters across the nation.
What the Decision Means for Namal University
Namal University, another vision-driven initiative associated with Imran Khan, was also affected, having its accounts frozen by the same clerical error. The corrective order by the ATC now restores financial access to the university in all aspects: administrative, educational, and development activities.
Being one of the emerging institutions of Pakistan, focusing on modern education and rural uplift, continuity in financial operation is crucial for student programs and academic projects.
A Reminder on Accuracy in Legal Processes
While the incident came to an end rather quickly, it highlights the importance of precision within financial and investigative systems. A small mistake regarding a CNIC number caused a momentary disruption in two major national institutions.
Fortunately, long-term harm was avoided by the proactive response from the legal teams and the clarity of the court. But the episode does remind us: where public service organisations are involved, accuracy in administration is paramount.
A Clean Slate for SKMT & Namal
Now that the accounts are fully functional, it is business as usual for SKMT and Namal University. The quick resolution will reassure patients, students, and other stakeholders that their institutions are stable, functional, and dedicated to serving the public.
As SKMT continues its lifesaving mission and Namal advances its educational goals, the ATC’s decision ensures that an administrative mishap will not stand in the way of national progress.
