On Monday, the federal government released the calendar of official and optional public holidays 2025 on the days of national significance, celebrations of Muslims and minorities.
The Cabinet Division sent a notice including the whole list of holidays to be honored next year as 2024 draws to an end.
Regarding Muslim celebrations, the dates of holidays will be determined by expected dates and susceptible to appearance of moon for which the division will issue separate notice.
No optional holiday will thus be provided to any government personnel without first approval of the relevant head of the corresponding organization.
Furthermore, in a calendar year no government official would be awarded three optional vacations for non-Muslims and more than one optional holiday in the case of Muslims.
“The grant of this concession should not result in any dislocated work,” it said.
Regarding Muslim optional holidays, the number of people allowed to participate should be controlled such that sufficient personnel is present for correct continuation of the job, the notification said.
“The optional holidays are denominational and may be allowed at the discretion of the head of the organisation, provided that work does not suffer,” the speaker said. “A government servant should not normally be refused an optional holiday that is of religious significance.”
