A Breathtaking Road Turned Horror – Babusar Top Robbery Strikes Gilgit-Baltistan Family Yet Again
A peaceful journey became a nightmare for a Gilgit-Baltistan family on a visit from Islamabad to Gilgit, as their vehicle was once attacked near Babusar Top early in the morning. The event, which occurred around 1:00 AM, rekindled fears about the security of one of the most scenic but dangerous roads in Pakistan.
The family had been held up by taking heavy tourists in Naran, stretching their tour duration well past midnight. While they began their descent from the famous Babusar Top, two armed men stepped out from the darkness and stopped their vehicle at gunpoint.
“We got stuck in tourists in Naran for nearly 4 hours, which held us up big time,” one family member posted on social media. “At about 1:00 AM, our vehicle was suddenly once stopped and raided by employing two armed robbers. They had appeared from nowhere, brandished their guns, and forced us to surrender the entire we had cell phones, wallets, and bags. Fortunately, none of us had been physically injured.”
Although the family evaded physical harm, the psychological damage has been immense.
An Expanding Trend of Fear Along the Babusar Route
This isn’t an isolated incident. In recent years, the Babusar Pass route once seen as a stunning gateway to Gilgit-Baltistan has taken into account a concerning upward push in crook activity. Both tourists and locals have reported traditional ambushes, some resulting in unfortunate loss of life.
One of the most breathtaking past events involved the abduction of a current Gilgit-Baltistan minister along with this very road. Even after increased awareness, the rugged terrain, absence of cell coverage, and lean regulation enforcement presence at nightish have rendered the area a facile target for such assaults.
Authorities React — But Doubts Persist
In response to Babusar Top robbery in contemporary times, regulation enforcement agencies have apprehended 12 suspects and filed a case. Police officials have termed this as the first reported theft in the area in the last two years, and a thorough inquiry is now being conducted.
“Those concerned will be provided with stern punishment according to the law,” a police official assured.
But this claim of rarity is being questioned. Locals and common tourists aver that such occurrences are now no longer always formally proposed or reported. A resident of Gilgit-Baltistan said, “Every 12 months we hear of robberies, but little changes. Tourists are now reconsidering this route altogether.”
The Lingering Psychological Impact
Although physical protection was narrowly maintained in this recent case, the psychological after effect persists. The family hit by utilizing the theft characterized the experience as extremely traumatic.
“None of us have been physically harmed, but the trauma is still with us,” a family member said.
Tourists who only a while ago looked forward to the stunning Babusar Pass view are now filled with fear. Families, particularly these with kids, are more and more reluctant to use this road, especially at night.
A Call for Action: Ensuring Safety for Travelers
As Pakistan keeps developing tourism and goals to highlight its northern beauty, ensuring street security along with key paths such as Babusar Top must become a pinnacle concern. Increased patrolling, 24/7 safety checkpoints, and technological measures such as watch cameras should discourage future assaults.
Vacationers are advised by locals to avoid traveling at night time and to join convoys where feasible.
The theft at Babusar Top is a grim reminder that even the most beautiful trips can harbor concealed threats until positive actions are made to protect these who visit them.
