Babar Azam’s Champions Trophy Struggles
Babar Azam, the former captain of Pakistan, has been facing intense criticism after his team’s early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. While many former Pakistani cricketers have openly questioned his performances, some renowned Indian cricketing Legends Defend Babar Azam.
As the host nation, Pakistan was eliminated from the tournament after suffering defeats against New Zealand and India. Babar’s performances were scrutinized, with his 64 off 90 balls against New Zealand considered too slow in a challenging chase of 321.
Against India, he could only manage 23 runs before getting dismissed by Hardik Pandya. His inconsistency across formats has been concerning, with his last ODI century recorded against Nepal in August 2023. These struggles have led to harsh criticism from former Pakistani players, including Shoaib Akhtar, who labeled Babar Azam a “fraud” in a harsh assessment of his performances.

Sidhu Calls for Respect
Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has voiced his disapproval of the backlash against Babar, urging critics to show respect to the 29-year-old batter. Known for his lively expressions and passionate analysis, Sidhu compared Babar’s situation to a general who stands strong against enemy attacks but feels heartbroken when betrayed by his people.
“Babar Azam is human too. Even Virat Kohli has had bad phases, and Babar is no different. Instead of criticizing him, show him respect. Let him play for his country without unnecessary pressure. He is your hero, and he deserves support,” Sidhu remarked.
His comments were directed at the rising criticism in Pakistan, where many believe Babar plays with a self-centered approach. Sidhu also compared Babar’s struggles to Kohli’s past form slumps, urging Pakistani fans to show patience.
“He has scored plenty of runs for you and will continue to do so. Learn to appreciate him instead of constantly attacking him. Standing at a distance and throwing stones will not help,” Sidhu added.
Gavaskar’s Technical Advice for Babar
Another Indian cricket legend, Sunil Gavaskar, has shared his thoughts on Babar’s form, offering technical guidance that could help him improve.
During a discussion on former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali’s YouTube channel, Gavaskar advised Babar to make minor adjustments to his stance, which could significantly enhance his movement at the crease.
“If he slightly reduces the gap between his legs while taking his stance, he will gain two advantages. It will improve his movement both forward and backward and help him judge the bounce better,” Gavaskar explained.
He further stated that small technical modifications could help Babar regain his top form. Which would be beneficial not just for Pakistan but for cricket fans worldwide. In this way Legends Defend Babar Azam.
