Manmohan Singh, Passes Away at Ninety-Two.

    NEW DELHI—

Manmohan Singh, the former Indian Prime Minister, was widely recognized as the architect of India’s economic reform program and a groundbreaking nuclear agreement with the United States. He passed away. He was 92 years old.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi admitted Singh late Thursday after his health declined as a result of a “sudden loss of consciousness at home,” according to a statement from the hospital. The statement stated that he was “undergoing treatment for age-related medical conditions.”

Manmohan Singh, a technocrat with a mild demeanour, served as one of India’s longest-serving prime ministers for a decade and was regarded as a man of exceptional personal integrity. In 2004, Sonia Gandhi, the widow of the assassinated Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, selected him to assume the position.

However, allegations of malfeasance against his ministers tarnished his otherwise impeccable reputation.

Singh was re-elected as prime minister from 2009 to 2014, a period that was marred by financial controversies and corruption allegations related to the organisation of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. This resulted in the Congress Party’s resounding defeat in the 2014 national election to the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, which was headed by Narendra Modi.

Singh maintained a low profile subsequent to his resignation as prime minister.
