With a visionary and ambitious step, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has launched a revolutionary e-rickshaw scheme that will solve Pakistan’s twin problems unemployment and pollution. This initiative, supported by the government, is aimed at giving electric rickshaws and loaders to unemployed citizens nationwide, particularly those belonging to low-income households. The scheme is not just a relief package but a vision plan for a clean, self-dependent future.
Empowering the Unemployed with Wheels of Opportunity
Led by the Prime Minister in a high-level electric mobility meeting, the plan aims at generating job opportunities for unemployed youth numbering thousands by providing them with easy access to electric loaders and rickshaws. The vehicles will be kept affordable by way of government-backed subsidy and installment loans.
The Prime Minister made it clear that electric vehicles (EVs) would be a triple benefit reducing the nation’s reliance on foreign fuel, conserving precious foreign exchange, and also stopping urban pollution. As he put it, it is not about transport; it’s about dignity, livelihood, and green responsibility.
A Vision for a Complete EV Ecosystem
To ensure success for this effort, PM Sharif has also directed the establishment of a comprehensive EV ecosystem in Pakistan. This involves developing domestic production capacity, increasing charging infrastructure, and providing after-sales service to EV owners. He directed the concerned departments to create a workable plan under which EVs are not only made available, but also sustainable in the long term.

Education Meets Innovation: Rewarding Young Minds
In a welcome move, the government has also stated that highest-scoring students from the Federal and provincial boards of education will be offered free electric bicycles. The move combines the virtues of education and environmentally friendly innovation, motivating the students to perform better in academics while promoting clean transport.
Ensuring Transparency and Awareness
To ensure public trust, the allocation of the electric vehicles will be third-party validated, making sure the process is based on merit and fairness. Apart from that, a countrywide awareness campaign will also be rolled out soon to educate the populace on how to apply, qualify, and gain from the scheme.
The Prime Minister clarified that students coming from **economically weaker sections** will be given priority in the application procedure, and instructed concerned departments and ministries to roll out the scheme forthwith.
