Punjab Hands Over TLP Mosques to Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman in Crackdown on Extremism

Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz proposed that TLP Mosques will be assumed by Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman

In a significant and groundbreaking step, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that mosques occupied earlier by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) will be handed over to noted Islamic scholar Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman. This was announced in her address to the Ittehad Inter-Muslim Committee, depicting the government’s determination to end extremism and bring peace throughout Punjab.

Punjab Hands Over TLP Mosques to Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman in Crackdown on Extremism

Maryam Nawaz’s statement is made when the province has witnessed the increasing fear of the misuse of religious institutions by some forces keen to discredit social stability. By distributing these mosques to a highly respected and moderate religious figure like Mufti Muneeb, the Punjab government signals an unequivocal determination towards safeguarding the purity of mosques as institutions of peace, not politics.

Revelations of Weapons and Illegal Funds

In her fiery speech, the Chief Minister unveiled some shocking information uncovered during recent raids. She informed that crores of rupees and a staggering cache of high-tech weapons were seized from the office of a Kaladam Jamaat – a banned organization guilty of violent uprisings.

“These are weapons that even our institutions do not possess,” she said. “They were used against the state—against our police, our rangers. No faith has taught such injustice, such violence.”

Her words reflected a crystal clear message: the use of religion to justify violence and rebellion will no longer be accepted in Punjab.

“A Person in Adiala Is Spreading Lies”

Maryam Nawaz also berated a detained individual in Adiala Jail for circulating misinformation about alleged casualties during recent violence. “If 600 individuals had indeed been killed,” she asserted, “there would have been piles of corpses.”

Her remarks were intended to deflect exaggerations and disinformation purportedly meant to create disruptions among the public. She emphasized that using religion for political or personal ends is a betrayal of religion itself—a trend her government is determined to stop.

Protecting Women, Restoring Law and Order

The Punjab Chief Minister reiterated her government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of women, reiterating that “the protection and respect of mothers, sisters, and daughters is our religious obligation.”

She urged state institutions to take strong action against any group that encourages arson, violence, or siege in the name of faith. “When tribulation raises its head,” she cautioned, “the downfall of nations starts. We were patient for two years, but patience must not be confused with weakness.”

Mufti Muneeb Role in Reclaiming Religious Integrity

By entrusting TLP-affiliated mosques in the hands of Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, the Punjab government hopes to restore these religious institutions to the cause of religion, harmony, and social work. Mufti Muneeb is a highly respected religious scholar who has been spreading peace and inter-sect concord for decades.

His appointment is a watershed in the government’s strategy to combat religious exploitation and bring in a more moderate, pluralistic Islamic environment in Punjab.

    A Turning Point for Punjab

This dramatic shift indicates the new vision of Maryam Nawaz’s leadership—the one that keeps religious respect together with the law. At this turning point for Punjab, the Chief Minister’s role makes a deafening announcement: the days of using religion as a cover for violence are over.

The handing over of the TLP mosques to Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman is not administrative—it is symbolic of a broader struggle to regain Pakistan’s moral and spiritual heart from the forces of extremism.
