Sahiwal Institute of Cardiology emerges as a state-of-the-art cardiac centre in Punjab with world-class treatment
In one major leap to revolutionize cardiac care in the region, Punjab’s Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique recently announced that the Sahiwal Institute of Cardiology would become fully operational with world-class healthcare facilities. This development is a big step forward for the people in central Punjab as they will get specialized and easily accessible cardiac treatment locally.
He expressed these views while presiding over a high-level Board of Management meeting at the Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education, which approved several administrative and operational decisions to expedite the launch of the institute.

Building the Future of Cardiac Excellence
The Sahiwal Institute of Cardiology aspires to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with leading medical institutions across the world. Once fully functional, it will offer comprehensive cardiac care-from diagnosis to surgery-supported by modern technology, skilled healthcare professionals, and infrastructure built to global standards.
During the meeting, a six-point agenda was approved to ensure smooth and transparent operations. These included the granting of legal status ratification, the opening of PLA and commercial bank accounts, the contracting of security services, and the establishment of essential medical and operational funds. Each step reflects the government’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and sustainable progress.
Leadership Driving Change
Accompanying the health minister at the meeting were Punjab Health Adviser Major General (retd) Dr Azhar Mahmood Kiani and Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood Khan, who both emphasized the need to provide modern standards, ethical transparency, and speedy implementation of the project.
Dr Kiani, a noted expert in both cardiology and healthcare systems, underscored that the new institute had to meet, indeed surpass, international benchmarks. With his emphasis on continuous monitoring and capacity-building, the facility is in position to act as a model of medical innovation and patient care in Pakistan.
Empowering the Region with Advanced Care
These heart patients have to travel long distances to Lahore or Multan for specialized treatment, which they have been doing for decades. With the almost-completed Sahiwal Institute of Cardiology, this struggle is about to end. The presence of the institute will save countless lives, reduce delays in treatment, and bring quality cardiac interventions within the reach of the local population.
The facility is also expected to generate new opportunities for the likes of medical professionals, researchers, and healthcare workers in an integrated ecosystem that promotes learning, innovation, and compassionate care.
Advancing Health Sciences and Research
Parallel to these, the 1st International Integrated Health Sciences and Research Conference was just held at Fatima Memorial College. This conference presented scientific presentations, lectures, and discussions on research that will shape the future of health and medical education in this country. It concluded with the awards recognizing outstanding contributions for medical research and innovation.
This synergy between academic research and practical healthcare development underlines the more general mission of the government: to make Punjab a hub of excellence and innovation in medicine.
A Promise of Hope for Heart Patients
As Punjab’s health infrastructure is consistently being increased, Sahiwal Institute of Cardiology is the beacon of hope for thousands of patients and their families. With its advanced infrastructure, expert leadership, and treatment facilities, it is geared to revolutionize the treatment of heart diseases in this region.
Under the stewardship of Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, the health vision of Punjab is turning into tangible reality that promises healthier hearts, happier lives, and a future driven by compassion and care.
