Pakistan Faces Harsh Criticism After Early Champions Trophy Exit. Pakistan’s early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has sparked widespread criticism. Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar stated that even India’s second-string team could defeat them. He pointed out Pakistan’s struggles and its declining performance on the international stage.
India Extends Dominance Over Pakistan
India, the 2023 ODI World Cup finalists, secured a six-wicket win over Pakistan in Dubai. This victory reinforced India’s dominance over their long-time rivals. Pakistan failed to put up a competitive fight, leading to further scrutiny of their performance.
Gavaskar Questions Pakistan’s Bench Strength
Sunil Gavaskar raised concerns about Pakistan’s lack of depth in their squad. He highlighted how the team has struggled since winning the Champions Trophy in 2017.
“I believe India’s B team can give Pakistan a tough challenge. A C team might be uncertain, but a B team will be very difficult for Pakistan to defeat in their current form,” Gavaskar commented.
Pakistan Eliminated from Tournament
Pakistan hosted an ICC event for the first time since 1996. However, their campaign ended in disappointment after New Zealand defeated Bangladesh in another Group A match. Pakistan remains winless in the tournament, raising further questions about their future.
Gavaskar Compares IPL and PSL’s Impact
Gavaskar credited India’s success in white-ball cricket to the Indian Premier League (IPL). He pointed out the stark contrast between India’s progress and Pakistan’s ongoing struggles despite having the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“India has developed many young talents through the IPL. These players gain experience in domestic cricket and then perform for the national team. Pakistan needs to analyze this difference,” Gavaskar remarked.
Atherton Says India-Pakistan Rivalry Is No Longer Competitive
Former England captain Michael Atherton shared similar views. He described the India-Pakistan matches as becoming “one-sided” in recent years.
“The game was completely one-sided,” Atherton stated. “Pakistan’s batting lacked energy and aggression. Their approach was predictable, just like in their first match against New Zealand.”
India’s Recent Dominance Over Pakistan
Despite the historic rivalry, India has dominated their recent encounters. Pakistan has managed only one win in their last nine ODIs against India. Their last victory came in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.
“You expect the game to match the hype, but results from the last decade show a clear one-sided trend,” Atherton added.
Pakistan still leads the overall ODI head-to-head record with 58 wins in 136 matches. However, their continued struggles in ICC events raise concerns about their future competitiveness in world cricket.
