Police Force Thwarts Major Assault on Bannu Post
In a display of rapid response and tactical coordination, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police successfully repelled a large-scale late-night attack on the Khonia Khel Police Post in Bannu Check post Wazir sub-division. Security sources confirmed on Wednesday that a large group of terrorists, armed with heavy weaponry, attempted to surround and seize the facility. However, alert personnel engaged the attackers in a fierce firefight, eventually forcing them to retreat before they could breach the installation’s defenses.
Significant Blow to Militant Leadership
The retaliatory action proved costly for the attackers. Following the initial assault, specialized units-including the Quick Response Force (QRF) and Rapid Response Force (RRF)-were dispatched to the scene under the direction of RPO Sajjad Khan and DPO Yasir Afridi. Among the dead were two high-value targets: Commander Umar Azam (alias Khizmeti) and another militant identified as Shahidullah. Authorities are currently working to identify the third slain attacker.
Resilience Amidst Coordinated Strikes
The night saw a surge in militant activity across the district, as attackers reportedly made secondary attempts to storm the Ahmadzai Police Station and the Fateh Khel Police Post. The assaults are to have been desperate retaliatory efforts to avenge the killing of comanders. Police successfully thwarted both attempts and maintained control of all installations. RPO Sajjad Khan has since lauded the bravery of the officers involved, announcing cash rewards and certificates to honor those who stood their ground against anti-state elements.
