Top Contenders to Replace Jasprit Bumrah in the 2025 Champions Trophy Squad

Team India is dealing with a significant setback as star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah battles a back injury ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Bumrah sustained the injury during the fifth Test match against Australia in Sydney last month. Although he remains in India’s provisional squad, his availability for the tournament depends on medical clearance.

With the February 12 deadline for finalizing the squad fast approaching, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is closely monitoring his recovery. If Bumrah is ruled out, it would be a massive blow to India’s bowling attack, given his crucial role in high-stakes tournaments. His last ODI appearance was in the 2023 World Cup final against Australia, where he claimed two wickets. His most recent white-ball match was the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa.

Potential Replacements for Jasprit Bumrah in the 2025 Champions Trophy

    Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur has been in excellent form in the Ranji Trophy, delivering strong performances with both bat and ball. In the quarter-final match against Haryana, he secured six wickets in the second innings. Over eight matches, he has taken 30 wickets at an average exceeding 22. Additionally, he has contributed with the bat, scoring 396 runs in nine innings at an impressive average of over 45.

    Harshit Rana

Harshit Rana has made a promising start to his international career across all formats. Known for consistently bowling above 140 km/h, he poses a challenge for batters with his pace and bounce. In his ODI debut against England, he picked up three wickets. Despite being expensive in the second match, his aggressive bowling style makes him an exciting prospect for India’s attack.

    Prasidh Krishna

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, Prasidh Krishna brings additional bounce and pace to the team. He delivered a standout performance in the Sydney Test against Australia, where he took six wickets. In ODIs, he has collected 29 wickets in 17 matches. With 120 wickets in 70 List-A games, he has valuable experience in high-pressure situations.

The 2025 Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Pakistan and the UAE from February 19 to March 9.
