Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif issues a stern ultimatum to the Taliban regime
In a dramatic build-up of rhetoric, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif released a scathing warning to the Afghan Taliban government after Pakistan-Afghanistan talks broke down in Istanbul. The talks, designed to defuse tension between the two sides along the border and prevent terrorist activism, collapsed without any consensus — inviting a strongly worded reaction from Islamabad.
Going on to X (ex-Twitter), Asif announced that Pakistan had attended the Istanbul dialogue upon the request of “brotherly countries” in the area to allow peace a decent chance. But his announcement made one thing certain that Islamabad’s patience has reached its peak.
“The poisonous remarks of Afghan officials reveal the deceptive and broken psyche of the Taliban regime,” Asif stated, citing great frustration over Kabul’s reluctance to cooperate in eradicating terrorism from Afghan territory.

“Even a fraction of Pakistan’s total arsenal is not needed to annihilate the Taliban regime into oblivion and drive them back to the caves for concealment,” he stated. “Should they desire so, a repeat of the scenes of their defeat at Tora Bora with tails between their legs would most definitely be a treat to watch for the people of the region.”
