Former Nurse Accused in £12.3 Million Blackmail Plot Against Michael Schumacher’s Family
A former nurse who cared for Formula 1 icon Michael Schumacher is facing serious accusations of being involved in a £12.3 million blackmail plot aimed at his family. The nurse, whose identity has not been revealed, allegedly threatened to leak private images of Schumacher to the dark web, as reported during a trial in Wuppertal, Germany.
The case revolves around three defendants, including Schumacher’s former security guard. Prosecutors claim that the accused accessed a disturbing collection of 900 photos and 583 videos, which showed the seven-time world champion in a fragile state, either in a hospital bed or a wheelchair. These images were reportedly obtained from a care computer restricted to medical staff. It is alleged that the defendants, which also include a nightclub bouncer, demanded money from Schumacher’s family to prevent the images from being shared online. The plot was thwarted when the culprits were electronically traced and arrested.
Since a skiing accident in Méribel, France, in December 2013, Michael Schumacher has been dealing with severe brain injuries. The accident placed him in a medically induced coma, and since then, his family has fiercely protected his privacy. There have been no public images released of Schumacher since the accident, with his wife, Corinna, working diligently to preserve his dignity. In 2020, Schumacher’s long-time manager, Sabine Kehm, grew suspicious of the nurse, which led to her departure from the position.
