Former national team captain Rashid Latif has called for major changes in the fast-bowling unit after Pakistan lost to New Zealand. He expressed concerns about the team’s performance in the first match of the tri-nation series.
While speaking to a private TV channel, Latif criticized senior fast bowlers, especially Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, for their recent performances. He raised serious questions about their effectiveness and even suggested dropping Shaheen from the team.
He emphasized that Shaheen Afridi has not delivered match-winning performances for a long time, which raises concerns about his current form. Despite Naseem Shah’s experience, his contributions remain limited, weakening Pakistan’s bowling attack.

Latif pointed out that players like Khushdil Shah and Salman Agha often face criticism for their performances in crucial matches. However, key players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah are rarely held accountable. He stressed that senior players must step up for the team’s overall success.
Discussing Pakistan’s bowling concerns, Former Captain Latif highlighted the impact of Haris Rauf’s injury on the team’s performance and overall bowling strength. He urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to adopt a fresh approach and focus on developing new fast bowlers.
The former cricketer also emphasized the need for accountability among senior players, ensuring that every member contributes effectively. Latif says a balanced and competitive team requires performance-based selection and fair criticism.
