Fawad Chaudhry Considering Loosen Up on Liquor Laws

Fawad Chaudhry wants licensed liquor shops with strict rules.

Fawad Chaudhry chatted on Drive With Shazia Zeeshan, and got real. He said people are drinking anyway, so why not control it?

He says the alcohol ban back in ’77 just made things worse, creating a shady market where anything goes. Instead, he thinks a few licensed stores with rules could help keep things in check and cut down on illegal sales.

Other Muslim countries that regulate alcohol

He mentioned the UAE, Turkey, and other Muslim countries that regulate alcohol. He says they balance it all well—respecting their culture, but also making money through tourism and keeping things orderly. He thinks Pakistan could do something similar.

Fawad also called out a former judge for shutting down cool spots like sheesha cafés. He thinks that just makes people do things in secret.

He joked that Pakistan is becoming a bannistan, where fun is illegal. He thinks it shows the government isn’t managing things right.

    Better to Regulate than Ban

The ex-minister thinks it’s better to regulate than ban. He said too many bans push young people away, hurt tourism, and make Pakistan look bad globally.

He thinks managing social events and recreational spots could help the economy and keep order. He believes Pakistan needs to be smart, not just play moral police.

People are split. Some agree with Fawad, others think he’s going against Islamic values. Either way, he’s got people talking about whether the alcohol ban is doing any good.

With money tight and Pakistan trying to attract tourists, will they rethink their approach?
