    Five Die in Boat Tragedy near Crete Island, One Pakistani Confirmed Dead

    The Foreign Office said on Sunday that one Pakistani was one of the five people who died when a boat tragedy carrying refugees capsized in the south of Greece’s Crete Island the day before.

    Starting with the first accounts, the FO said that 47 Pakistanis and other people had been saved after the incident.

    “There is proof that one Pakistani is among the dead.” “At this point, we can’t confirm the number of Pakistani citizens who have died or gone missing,” a FO spokesperson said in a news release.

    On the orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Pakistani embassy in Greece has set up a separate cell to deal with the emergency.

    Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar is keeping an eye on the efforts to find and help the Pakistanis who have been touched by the event.

    Also, the Pakistani mission has sent a letter to the right department in Greece.

    PM Sharif sent his condolences to the Pakistani victims and their families on behalf of the whole country.

    They will be punished for their part in the horrible crime of selling people, he said. A spokesperson for the Pakistani embassy in Athens said that they were in touch with the Greek and Chania’s Coast Guard authorities, who were in charge of the search and rescue effort.

    The Pakistan embassy has sent people to Crete to meet the saved Pakistanis and help them in any way they can.

    Early on Saturday, news outlets said that at least five people died when a wooden boat carrying refugees capsized off the island of Gavdos in southern Greece.

    A cargo ship with the flag of Malta saved 47 migrants from a boat that was about 40 nautical miles off the coast of Gavdos. Another tanker saved another 88 migrants off the small island in the south of Greece.,in boat tragedy

    Names of survivors

    After the tragedy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made public a list of the 47 Pakistanis who were saved.

    They are Umer Farooq, Muhammad Ahmad Shahzad, Mohsan Riaz, Talha, Raja Sajid, Raja Omar Nasir, Mehtab Rafaqat, Amir Habib, Muha­mmad Safdar, Nayyab Ahmed, Nadeem Ahmed, Umair Ahsan, Muhammad Bilal, Rahat Dila­war, Manzar Ali, Ahmed Mukhtar, Haroon Asghar, Muzamil Hussain, Jamshaid Ali, Jaffar Iqbal, Muhammad Majid, Muhammad Salman, Qasim Ali, Muhammad Abdullah, Osama Ali, Husnain Zafar Iqbal, Muhammad Hammad, Hassan Ali, Bilal Hussain, Sarmad Akbar, Usman Ahmad, Shoaib Mushtaq, Abdul Hanan, Ali Hamza, Fahad Ali, Muhammad Imran, Abdul Latif Rehman, Salman Khalid, Harmain Ali, Zain Ali, Usama Basharat, Mirza Kamran, Muhammad Waqas, Syfyan Zulfiqar, Tahir Raza, Shahroz Ali and Shahzeel Ahmad.

    In the meantime, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a Crisis Management Unit (CMU) in Islamabad to help Pakistanis in Greece deal with the situation.

    Mohsin Naqvi, the federal minister of interior, ordered a probe into what happened right away. He set up an investigation group led by Riffat Mukhtar Raja, who is the Additional Secretary of the Interior.
