The cyber crime law in pakistan, the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 regulates cybercrime law, which encompasses offences such as hacking, identity theft, cyberstalking, and child pornography. 1. Dissemination of False Information
– Penalty: A fine of Rs. 1 million or imprisonment for a maximum of three years.
Posting false claims online that damage an individual’s reputation is an example.
2. Disclosure of Explicit Content
– Penalty: A fine of Rs. 5 million or imprisonment for up to 5 years, or both.
– This encompasses the dissemination of altered or explicit images or videos to cause injury or extort money.
3. Child Pornography
– Penalty: A fine of Rs. 5 million or imprisonment for a maximum of seven years.
– Encompasses the production, distribution, or possession of explicit content that pertains to juveniles.
4. Cyberstalking
– Penalty: A fine of Rs. 1 million or imprisonment for a maximum of three years.
– Involves the transmission of unsolicited communications or the surveillance of an individual without their consent.
5. Hate Speech
– Penalty: A fine, imprisonment for up to seven years, or both.
– For instance, the dissemination of content that fosters animosity towards a particular race, religion, or sect.
6. Spamming
– Penalty: A fine of Rs. 50,000, imprisonment for up to three months, or both (for a first offence).
– Consists of the repetitive transmission of unsolicited emails or SMS.
The cyber crime law in Pakistan prioritises accountability for online offences and promotes digital safety. The FIA Cyber Crime Wing accepts complaints from victims through email, online forms, or in-person visits to regional offices.
