Karachi Protests Intensify Over Parachinar Situation

On Thursday, a religiopolitical party that was protesting the murders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Parachinar district expanded its protest in Karachi, which prompted traffic authorities to issue traffic plans to prevent commuters from experiencing any inconveniences.

In October, violent confrontations that resulted in the loss of over 100 lives have isolated Kurram in KP from the rest of the country.

Two individuals were murdered and subsequently decapitated in the Bagan area of Kurram on Sunday night after being waylaid on their way to Parachinar.

Dawn reported that Ishaq Hussain and Waseem Hussain, residents of Parachinar who had recently returned from abroad, had employed individuals to assist them in their return to their hometown. However, the perpetrators intercepted them on their journey and executed them by shooting and decapitation.

For the past three days, the Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen (MWM) has conducted sit-ins in Abbas Town on Abul Hasan Ispahani Road and on MA Jinnah Road to demonstrate their support for the heirs of the victims of the Parachinar situation.

The third venue of the sit-in was expanded to the Malir area on the main National Highway on Thursday night.

According to a spokesperson for the traffic police, the “main National Highway from Malir-15 Bridge towards Quaidabad was closed for traffic due to the sit-in.”

“The traffic is being redirected from Malir to Model Colony,” it further stated.

The MWM previously announced in a statement that their sit-in at Numaish Chowrangi would continue on a consecutive basis on Thursday in response to the situation in Parachinar. MWM central leader Allama Hasan Zafar Naqvi stated that they were conducting a peaceful demonstration in opposition to “barbarianism” during the event.

Traffic police have developed a traffic plan for Sharea Pakistan, which spans from Star Gate/Natha Khan, National Highway (Malir-15), Sharea Pakistan (Ancholi), Rizvia Chowrangi (Nazimabad), Abbas Town, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Korangi, Gulshan-i-Maymar, Steel Town/Gulshan-i-Hadeed, and North Karachi/Surjani Town, in anticipation of anticipated protests and sit-ins throughout Karachi beginning on Thursday night.

Traffic police issued an additional statement at 9:43 p.m., announcing that the demonstrations had resulted in the closure of roads leading to and from Sharea Faisal.

“The incident in Parachinar is being protested by members of a religiopolitical party,” the statement stated.

The statement also stated that traffic from the city is being diverted from Drigh Road to Rashid Manhas Road, while traffic from Star Gate is being diverted from Shah Faisal Colony Bridge to Shah Faisal Colony.
