Marco Jansen started his cricket career as a hitter, but his height of 2.06 metres instantly distinguishes him as a quick bowler. In their hometown of Potchefstroom, Jansen’s father, Koos, served as his first coach, instructing him and his twin brother, Duan. The two were selected to bowl to the Indian team on tour in the nets at the age of 17, and their accuracy and velocity won over players like Virat Kohli.
Jansen was the top wicket-taker for North West in the three-day provincial tournament in 2019 before travelling to India with South Africa’s Under-19 team. He was signed by the Mumbai Indians for the IPL after travelling to Pakistan with South Africa’s Test team in early 2021. Jansen became the first player born in the 2000s to be capped for the national team when he made his Test debut against India in the 2021 Boxing Day Test.
