McCullum: India Vs England Series Perfect Warm-Up for Champions Trophy

England’s head coach, Brendon McCullum, expressed his optimism on Monday about his team’s preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy. He hopes their India Vs England series of limited-overs  will set them up for success.

England, led by Jos Buttler, will kick off the India Vs England series with the first of five T20 internationals at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Wednesday. This series will mark McCullum’s first limited-overs tour as England’s coach, having previously only been in charge of the Test side.

“I’m eager for us to play a brand of cricket that’s exciting and enjoyable to watch,” McCullum said to reporters. “Given the talent we have, there’s no reason why we can’t achieve that.”

Following the T20 series, England will play three ODIs against India before moving into the eight-team ODI Champions Trophy. This begins on February 19 in Pakistan and Dubai.

“We’ll use the coming weeks to prepare and hit the ground running,” McCullum added. “There will be times when things don’t go as planned, but I’m confident we’ll work through those challenges. By the time the Champions Trophy arrives, we’ll be in great shape.”

The 43-year-old coach also praised Buttler, who will focus solely on batting during the tour and won’t keep wicket. He believes Buttler will leave a significant impact as England’s white-ball captain.

“Jos is in a fantastic place right now, he’s thrilled about the team we have and the opportunities ahead. I’m sure we’ll see him enjoy his cricket even more in the coming years, and hopefully, he’ll look back on his career with great satisfaction.”
