On Monday, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (PSX: OGDC) said that it had successfully brought a heavy oil well in its Northern Region field back to life.
This was done at the Rajian Oil Field in Gujar Khan E.L., District Chakwal, according to a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). The company said it was a smart step towards increasing production. It said that the Field’s four heavy oil wells were producing 1,500 barrels of oil per day (BPD), but now they will be making 2,500BPD.
The notice said that OGDC made a detailed plan to improve output from the Rajian field. The plan focusses on completing 11 workover jobs and putting in place advanced artificial lift systems. Shri Rajian-3A, which goes down 3,652 meters, was the first goal of this project.
In 2020, this well had to be put on hold briefly because of problems with the formation. In the Chorgali-Sakessar and Tobra areas, OGDCL came up with a creative way to finish the well by using an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP). It was said that this attempt successfully brought back production at the well, increasing output to 1,000 BPD.
OGDC expects a big increase in output from the Rajian field now that the optimisation program for the last 10 wells is under way. Also, the OGDCL-owned Rig N-4 that was sent to the Rajian field to help with the program will stay there for the whole time.
The expected results will be shared with owners once these operations are done, the company said. This shows that it is committed to making the most of its assets and creating value.
