Peshawar Launches New Phase of Drug-Free Campaign in Educational Institutions
An agreement has been signed between the Peshawar district administration and the Medical Emergency Resilience Foundation (MERF) to combat drug addiction in the city’s schools, colleges, and universities. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was officially signed by Assistant Commissioner Haroon Saleem, MERF Medical Superintendent Dr. Qazi Shahbaz Moeenuddin, and representatives from the Commissioner Peshawar office.
Under Phase 3 of MERF’s Drug-Free Campaign, free medical tests will be offered to students across all educational institutions in the district. These tests will include CBC, hepatitis screenings, and drug tests, along with other essential diagnostics. MERF will provide a team of specialized doctors and pathologists to support the initiative.
The district administration is overseeing this phase of the ongoing campaign, which aims to protect the city’s future generations from the growing issue of drug addiction. The initiative is expanding its reach to all educational institutions, ensuring that drug abuse is tackled at an early stage. Special teams from the Department of Social Welfare and the Excise Department have been formed to conduct operations across Peshawar. These teams are tasked with identifying and transporting drug addicts to rehabilitation centers where they will receive free government-provided treatment, food, and accommodation.
The need for such campaigns has become increasingly evident as drug addiction continues to be a significant challenge in Peshawar. Recent data has highlighted the severity of the issue, making efforts like the Drug-Free Peshawar campaign essential in curbing the rise of substance abuse in the city.
Through these coordinated efforts, Peshawar aims to create a safer and healthier environment for its youth, preventing the spread of drug addiction and fostering a more productive society.
