Quavo Recognized as “Humanitarian of the Year” at Variety Hitmakers Brunch
Quavo was honored as the Humanitarian of the Year at the eighth annual Variety Hitmakers Brunch, held on December 7 at Nya Studios in Hollywood. The GRAMMY-nominated rapper and philanthropist received the recognition for his dedication to addressing gun violence. His advocacy became even more personal following the tragic 2022 loss of his nephew and Migos groupmate, Takeoff.
The Rocket Foundation’s Impact
Greg Jackson, the Deputy Director of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, presented the prestigious award to Quavo, praising his tireless efforts through his Rocket Foundation. Established in November 2022 in memory of Takeoff, the foundation has become a force for positive change in the fight against gun violence. Over just two years, it has supported community-based programs and raised awareness at both the local and national levels.
One of the foundation’s significant initiatives, the Sparks Grants, awarded $10,000 each to ten organizations in Atlanta working to create safer neighborhoods. Additionally, Quavo partnered with the Offender Alumni Association for the Rocket Camp music education workshop, targeting at-risk youth in the summer of 2023. His efforts also helped influence the creation of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
Advocacy on the National Stage
Quavo’s influence extends beyond Atlanta and into the national arena. In 2023, he hosted the inaugural Rocket Foundation Summit on Gun Violence Prevention in Atlanta and collaborated with Vice President Kamala Harris at the Congressional Black Caucus legislative conference. The summit helped highlight Quavo’s strong stance on passing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, one of the most comprehensive gun control laws in U.S. history.
The Rocket Foundation works alongside organizations like the Offender Alumni Association and the Community Justice Action Fund to find community-driven solutions to reduce gun violence. Quavo’s tireless work and leadership in these initiatives have cemented his role as a key advocate for change in his community.
Quavo’s Continued Success in Music and Entertainment
In addition to his humanitarian efforts, Quavo remains a prominent figure in the music and entertainment industries. As a core member of Migos, he earned multiple No. 1 hits on the Billboard charts. Quavo has also collaborated with top artists such as Travis Scott, Justin Bieber, and Post Malone.
His recent solo work includes collaborations with Lana Del Rey, Peso Pluma, and Lenny Kravitz, highlighting his musical versatility. Beyond music, Quavo has also made appearances in TV shows like Atlanta and Black-ish, as well as in films like Praise This, proving his adaptability across entertainment platforms.
