Section 144 Imposed in Karachi for New Year’s Eve Safety

Section 144 Imposed in Karachi for New Year’s Eve: Ensuring Safety and Peace

Karachi Commissioner Imposes Section 144 for New Year’s Eve Celebrations
The Karachi Commissioner has announced the imposition of Section 144 for a 48-hour period starting from December 31, 2023, through January 1, 2024, in an effort to maintain order and safety during the New Year’s Eve celebrations. This measure is intended to prevent harmful activities such as aerial gunfire and fireworks, which have led to injuries in the past. Section 144 empowers the district administration to regulate public gatherings and certain actions to ensure public safety.

Why Section 144 Is Imposed for New Year’s Eve in Karachi
The decision to impose Section 144 is based on concerns regarding the chaotic scenes often witnessed on New Year’s Eve. A large number of people, especially young individuals, gather in areas like Seaview for celebrations. The commissioner’s notification highlights that this influx of revelers often causes traffic jams and inconveniences to residents in the vicinity. More importantly, the presence of firearms, aerial firing, and fireworks pose serious risks to public safety.

Aimed at Preventing Aerial Firing and Fireworks
One of the primary reasons for the ban is the safety risk posed by aerial firing, a dangerous tradition among some Karachi residents on New Year’s Eve. This practice has led to numerous injuries in the past, and authorities are determined to avoid any further loss of life or property damage. To prevent these activities, a complete ban on the carrying and display of firearms, aerial firing, and the use of firecrackers has been implemented in Karachi from December 31, 2023, to January 1, 2024.

Authorities Take Precautionary Measures for Public Safety
According to the notification, the South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police had requested this restriction to safeguard the lives of Karachi’s residents. The commissioner stressed that these safety measures would help ensure a peaceful transition into the New Year and prevent any untoward incidents. The enforcement of Section 144 is a precautionary step taken by the authorities to ensure that the festivities do not turn into a hazardous event for the citizens of Karachi.

A Safer New Year’s Eve in Karachi
The imposition of Section 144 for New Year’s Eve celebrations is a proactive measure by Karachi’s administration to keep the city safe and ensure that the New Year is welcomed without incident. With the ban in place, the authorities hope to prevent dangerous activities such as aerial firing and fireworks that have marred past celebrations. By taking these necessary steps, Karachi aims to provide a secure and peaceful environment for its residents to enjoy the festivities.
