    Gun Attack in Kurram District Claims Lives of 38 Shia Passengers

    Police report that at least 38 Shia individuals have lost their lives in a gun attack targeting passenger vans in the Kurram District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The image shows the gun attack that took place in Kurram on Thursday.

    According to the police, a gun attack on passenger vans in the lower Kurram area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Which resulted in the deaths of at least 38 Shia passenger on Thursday.
    Ahmady Shama Station House Officer Kaleem Shah informed  that there were 38 fatalities, which included three women, and 11 individuals sustained injuries.

    Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi provided the update while addressing the media outside High Court. “The past week has been challenging and distressing; now, 38 shia individuals have lost their lives in Kurram,” he stated. “We observe a new incident daily and maintain ongoing communication with the KP authorities, the KP inspector general of police. And the chief minister.” Assistance is required.

    “They are one of our provinces, a part of our country, and we will not abandon them,” stated the interior minister. “We will assist in any way possible.” Barrister Dr. Saif, the KP government spokesperson, detailed the incident. He stated that both sides first attacked police personnel before targeting the passenger convoy. “There were approximately 200 vehicles in the convoy,” he stated.

    The district administration, along with senior police officials and officers, was present at the scene, as stated by him. Barrister Saif stated that an investigation into the incident is currently underway. Terrorists in the Kurram district targeted “two separate convoys of members of the Shia community,” .According to Kurram Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud, who spoke to AFP.

    A police escort accompanied each convoy, which consisted of about 40 vehicles.

    DC Mehsud further said that “women and children sought refuge in local houses, and we are currently searching for [the attackers] in the area.”

    The Medical Superintendent of Tehsil Head Quarters (THQ) Hospital Alizai, Dr. Muhammad Ishaq, reported that 33 individuals lost their lives and 30 sustained injuries. He mentioned that various hospitals within the district are transferring the injured. Some are sending them to Peshawar for further treatment.

    According to KP Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, as reported by Reuters, “the death toll is likely to rise.”

    President Asif Ali Zardari expressed strong condemnation of the incident. He extended his condolences to those mourning the loss of their loved ones.“Attacking innocent passengers is a cowardly and inhumane act,”. He stated in a post on X, according to the PPP’s media cell. Stated that those accountable for the incident ought to face consequences. He emphasized the importance of providing timely medical assistance to those injured.

    The Chief Minister of KP, Ali Amin Gandapur, has taken serious notice of the incident and has expressed his condemnation of it. He instructed a delegation that included the chief secretary, provincial law minister. And the local MNA and MPA to travel to Kurram without delay to evaluate the situation firsthand and provide a report.

    The chief minister has advocated for the reactivation of the area’s jirga to improve the situation in Kurram.

    CM Gandapur instructed officials to “make efforts to establish a provincial highways police to ensure the safety of all highways in the province.” All relevant institutions are actively working to enhance the law and order situation in the area,” he stated.

    Announcing financial assistance for the families of those killed in the attack. CM Gandapur said targeting innocent citizens was “extremely regrettable and condemnable.”.
    “Those involved in the incident will not evade the law,” he asserted.

    The incident occurs during a notable increase in terrorist attacks in Balochistan and KP.
    Attacks increased following the violation of a fragile ceasefire agreement by the banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in 2022. They pledged to focus on security forces. An intelligence-led operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district neutralized two terrorists last month.

    The military’s media affairs wing reported a day ago that a checkpost in the Mali Khel area of KP’s Bannu had martyred twelve security personnel.
