Karachi Traffic Plan for New Year’s Eve Celebrations

Karachi Traffic Police have outlined a comprehensive plan to manage traffic and ensure public safety during the New Year’s Eve celebrations. With large crowds expected at popular destinations like Sea View, Clifton, and Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, several major roads will be closed from December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025. These road closures are intended to control traffic flow and prevent congestion during the busy holiday period.

In addition to the road closures, strict security measures will be in place across the city. Section 144 will be imposed for two days, prohibiting the use of arms, aerial firing, and firecrackers. This step is aimed at preventing the injuries and fatalities caused by celebratory firing in past years. The Karachi Traffic Police have also advised residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) to avoid the closed roads and take alternative routes to reduce congestion. DHA residents can present their original identity cards to ensure smooth passage.

The following roads will be closed for traffic:

    • PIDC Chowk (Ziauddin Road) to Ziauddin Bridge
    • PIDC Chowk to Club Road
    • Bilawal Chowrangi to Bahria Underpass
    • Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine to 26th Street

To help drivers navigate the area, alternative routes have been provided for different parts of the city. Residents from Korangi, North Nazimabad, and Gadap are advised to take these routes to avoid delays.

Parking will also be prohibited on major roads such as Sharea Faisal, Abdullah Haroon Road, Mai Kolachi Road, and others. Mauripur Road will be fully closed for heavy traffic, including trucks and tankers, which will be diverted to Hub River Road and Sharea Pakistan.

The traffic police will take strict action against vehicles without silencers and those engaging in reckless driving. These measures aim to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of all citizens during the New Year’s Eve celebrations, providing a safer and more organized environment for everyone to enjoy the festivities.
