In a case that was sparked by the arrest of the PTI founder in a corruption case on May 9, last year, former PTI leader Shireen Mazari was indicted on Monday, along with eight others, in connection with the attack on the army’s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi during violent protests.
Imran, who has been incarcerated in Adiala Jail since August 2023, was apprehended by the Rawalpindi police in January in connection with the May 9 protest case. Meanwhile, the police apprehended his associates Omar Ayub and ex-Punjab law minister Raja Basharat following the indictment by an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi.
Amjad Ali Shah, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) judge, indicted Imran and numerous PTI leaders and supporters in the same case earlier this month.
Judge Shah conducted the hearing in a courtroom at Adiala Jail, where the PTI founder was brought to the stand.
Almost two dozen suspects, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, were the subject of prosecution applications to suspend their parole.
Shireen Mazari, the former human rights minister, was indicted by the court, along with eight other individuals.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Colonel Ajmal Sabir Raja, and Sikandar Zeb declined to sign the charging document, asserting that the evidence against them was insufficient. They stated that their 265D application should be considered first, and they would sign the charging document following the decision on their application.
Imran opted not to address the media; however, he engaged in discussions with PTI leaders, including Sheikh Rasheed, Babar Awan, and Fawad Chaudhry.
In the interim, Shah Mahmood Qureshi was dispatched to Lahore amid high security.
Gandapur had arrived at Adiala Jail to meet with Imran; however, he was denied entry and his convoy was halted outside gate 5. The convoy subsequently departed for Gorakhpur.
