BCCI Creates New Controversy Ahead of ICC Champions Trophy

According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) initially refused to play in Pakistan, citing security concerns. This led to the Champions Trophy being shifted to a hybrid model under the directives of the International Cricket Council (ICC). In response, Pakistan demanded that the same model be implemented for future events. If India continued to avoid traveling to Pakistan.

However, recent media reports suggest that the BCCI has now raised objections to including the name of the host nation. “Pakistan,” on team jerseys for the ICC Champions Trophy. This move has sparked outrage among cricket fans.

Under the hybrid model, the Indian team will play its matches in Dubai, while Pakistan remains the official host. As per ICC regulations, the host country’s name must appear on event jerseys. Yet, India seems to be leveraging this opportunity to bring politics into the game.

A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official criticized India’s refusal to print “Pakistan” on their jerseys. Calling it an attempt to politicize cricket. Additionally, the BCCI has allegedly declined to send Indian captain Rohit Sharma to Pakistan for events such as the captains’ meet and the opening ceremony, further fueling the controversy.

The PCB official emphasized that objecting to the host nation’s name on jerseys is a clear attempt to stir conflict, and Pakistan will respond robustly to this unwarranted provocation.
