A Pakistani trade delegation, led by Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), visited Bangladesh after a 12-year gap. The primary focus of the visit was to strengthen bilateral economic relations and promote investment opportunities between the two nations.
According to an FPCCI statement, the delegation had significant discussions with Bangladesh’s Minister for Commerce, Sheikh Bashiruddin. During the meeting, the Pakistani representatives emphasized the need to enhance economic cooperation and explore investment possibilities between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh expressed optimism, stating, “This is the beginning of a new era, and we will stand by Bangladesh at every turn.” He further highlighted that Bangladesh’s Minister for Commerce had shown a strong commitment to improving trade relations with Pakistan.
FPCCI Senior Vice President Saqib Fyaz Magoo welcomed the recent easing of visa restrictions for Pakistanis by Bangladesh. He called for the issuance of long-term visas to facilitate the movement of the Pakistani business community. In response, he mentioned that Pakistan had also relaxed visa requirements for Bangladeshi nationals, making it easier for businesses to engage across borders.
Sheikh Bashiruddin, Bangladesh’s Minister for Commerce, assured the delegation that both nations would collaborate closely to explore opportunities in various sectors, including economic, industrial, and business fields. He confirmed that both countries had agreed to increase mutual trade, with a focus on encouraging Pakistani businesses to invest in Bangladesh.
The meeting was attended by Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Syed Ahmed Maroof, who also supported the push for stronger ties between the two countries. This visit marks a significant step toward revitalizing trade and investment between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
