Pakistan, coached by Mohammad Rizwan, will look to recover from their disappointing Twenty20 International performances in the highly anticipated match that takes place on Tuesday, the first of a three-match series.
With two wickets to go, the left-arm fast bowler can tie Shoaib Akhtar for second place among Pakistan’s all-time great bowlers against South Africa, and with four to go, he can tie the legendary Wasim Akram for third place.
Number of Wickets Scored by Pakistan Against South Africa
Thanks to his incredible effectiveness, Shaheen Afridi is almost caught up to Akram in terms of matches played, thus establishing himself as one of Pakistan’s top bowlers.
In the previous Twenty20 International series, Shaheen Afridi took three wickets in two games, although his performances were erratic, belying his promise. His mastery of one-day international match-winning is, however, beyond dispute, and Pakistan will rely on his classical swing bowling to create an impression in Paarl.
After losing badly in the Twenty20 tournament, Rizwan’s team will be looking to get back on track in the opening One-Day International. If Shaheen Afridi has a good game, the team’s chances of winning will improve, and he will also go down in history as one of Pakistan’s bowling greats.
