CM Maryam Nawaz Announces Significant Developmental Projects for Young Graduates through Punjab Agriculture Internship Program
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif continues to lead the province towards innovation and development, launching two significant initiatives geared towards youth empowerment and green transport. Yesterday, she launched the *second phase of the CM Punjab Agriculture Internship Program 2025, and at the same time, the city of Lahore got its first electric tram both new standards in governance and development.
Youth Empowerment Through Agriculture: Internship Program Phase II
In a nation where the economy is still the backbone of agriculture, the Punjab government has made a forward-thinking move to combine learning with practical experience. Under the newly introduced phase of the Punjab Agriculture Internship Program, 2,000 young graduates in BSc in Agriculture or BSc (Hons) in Agricultural Engineering will be given monthly stipends of Rs60,000.
The objective? Not mere temporary jobs, but lasting change. These interns will directly interact with farmers in districts to implement new agricultural methods, raise productivity, and ultimately help ensure food security in Pakistan.
For fairness and provincial representation, a district-wise quota system will be followed. All interested applicants are invited to submit their applications through the Deputy Director Agriculture (Extension) office in their particular districts. To provide further assistance, the Agricultural Helpline (0800-17000) will also be operational for inquiry and guidance.
Maryam Nawaz’s Vision: From Golden Yields to Green Innovation
In her inaugural speech, CM Maryam Nawaz declared that the program is a measure of her dedication to a “golden-yielding Punjab”. She emphasized the need to engage educated youth in the agriculture sector and place them on the front lines as the change makers who would inject innovation into the fields.
This internship programme goes hand in hand with other major projects like the Kisan Card Programme, Green Tractor Scheme, and Tube Well Solarization Project an integrated plan to transform the rural economy.
In another path-breaking decision, the CM unveiled plans for a Model Agriculture Mall, a one-stop shop that will provide agricultural advisory, technology, inputs, and finance services under one roof.
Lahore Goes Electric: First Chinese Electric Tram Arrives
While the countryside is witnessing an agricultural renaissance, Lahore is gearing up for a green transport revolution. The first-ever electric tram, imported from China, has officially arrived and will initially operate on Canal Road, one of Lahore’s busiest routes.
This electric tram is made up of three connected coaches, accommodates 250 passengers, and needs only 10 minutes of charging to cover 25–27 kilometers. Operating on the principle of a subway but on roads, the tram is a radical move towards alleviating urban traffic and pollution.
A pilot project in the vicinity of Lahore Airport is already underway to evaluate the performance and viability of the vehicle. If results are successful, the project can potentially revolutionize public transport across other major Punjab cities in the near future.
Integrated Development for a Thriving Punjab
Both the Punjab Agriculture Internship Program and the electric tram launch underscore CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s multi-sectoral vision of governance. Whether it’s southern Punjab’s agriculture fields or Lahore’s busy roads, the message is simple: development has to be inclusive, sustainable, and futuristic.
Both of these programs not only focus on the challenges of the current times such as youth unemployment and environmental degradation nor do they set the stage for a smarter, greener, and richer Punjab.
