By adding 86 new jobs to its list of jobs that need skilled workers to fill by 2025. Austria is increasing the number of jobs available for foreign workers.
In November 2024, the Austrian Immigration Department provided an update on the government’s plans to address worker shortages in various fields. Which includes engineering and healthcare.

Getting Austria’s Skills Gap Closed
Austria is known for its beautiful scenery and excellent quality of life, but it needs skilled workers, so it has changed its rules on immigrants. Austria has added 110 jobs to its list of skill shortages. This makes it easier for professionals from around the world to get work permits, which often come with excellent pay.
The need for skilled workers in Austria is growing, and this year there were 35% more applications for the Red-White-Red Card than last year. Martin Kocher, the minister of labor, anticipates a total of 13,500 approvals by 2025.
Important Parts of the New Shortage List
The most recent shortage list from the Austrian Immigration Department includes jobs in engineering, transportation, education, the arts, and healthcare. The Austrian Immigration Department has added these new critical jobs:
– Health care: midwives, nurses, and dietitians; – Transportation: bus and train drivers and operators;
– Engineering: leaders in data processing and mechanical and electrical engineering
– Education: People who work with kids and do social work
– Jobs in the arts and service industries, like chefs, florists, hairstylists, and cosmetologists
Changes to Austria’s Employment of Foreign Nationals Act and the Settlement and Residence Act facilitate the entry of skilled foreign workers into the country.
