Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are known for sharing their humorous, sometimes awkward moments on Live with Kelly and Mark, and Thursday, Dec. 19, was no exception. During a discussion about AirBnB’s “anti-party technology” ahead of New Year’s Eve, the couple revisited a story about an incident involving their former neighbor’s Airbnb rental during the pandemic.
Consuelos reminded Ripa of the time their neighbor rented out their townhouse to a group of students, resulting in loud, disruptive parties. Ripa recalled how she was woken up by loud music and flashing lights late at night. At the time, Consuelos was away in Vancouver.
Frustrated by the situation, Ripa took action, first calling 3-1-1 and then 9-1-1. However, the dispatcher informed her that a party wasn’t considered an emergency. Still determined to stop the noise, she said, “I was like, ‘What do I do to make them stop?’” The parties were particularly upsetting because they violated pandemic restrictions on gatherings, and the music was far from Ripa’s taste.
In the middle of the night, wearing just a bathrobe, Kelly Ripa decided to confront the partygoers herself. She banged on the door, and when the students answered, they mistook her for an Uber driver. Ripa firmly told them, “What you’re doing is illegal,” explaining that she knew the actual tenants and didn’t approve of their party. Despite some resistance, Ripa was able to get the music turned off.
Mark Consuelos jokingly teased his wife, saying she became “that person,” to which Kelly responded, “No, I’m not that person; they are that person.” After the encounter, Ripa was satisfied to have put an end to the late-night noise and reminded viewers of her no-nonsense approach when it comes to dealing with disruption.
