Shireen Mazari, who used to be with PTI, got indicted on Monday along with eight other people in a case related to the attack on the army’s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. This happened during the intense protests that followed the arrest of the PTI founder over a corruption case on May 9 last year.
Imran has been locked up in Adiala Jail since August 2023. He got arrested by the Rawalpindi police in connection with the May 9 protest back in January. His aides, Omar Ayub and former Punjab law minister Raja Basharat, were also taken into custody after an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi handed down an indictment.
This month, the anti-terrorism court judge, Amjad Ali Shah, charged Imran along with a bunch of PTI leaders and supporters in the same case.
The PTI founder showed up in court at Adiala Jail, with Judge Shah overseeing the hearing.
The prosecution submitted requests to revoke the bail for nearly twenty suspects, which includes Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The court charged the ex-human rights minister Mazari and eight others.
Three of the accused — Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Colonel Ajmal Sabir Raja, and Sikandar Zeb — declined to sign the charge sheet, arguing that the evidence presented was not enough to support the charges against them. They mentioned that their 265D application needs to be addressed first, and they’ll sign the charge sheet once the decision on their application is made.
Imran skipped the media talk but caught up with PTI leaders like Fawad Chaudhry, Babar Awan, Sheikh Rasheed, and a few others.
At the same time, Shah Mahmood Qureshi was dispatched to Lahore under tight security.
Ali Amin Gandapur showed up at Adiala Jail to see Imran, but he got denied entry, and his convoy was held up outside gate 5. The convoy headed out to Gorakhpur next.
