Famous YouTuber Rajab Butt faces criminal movement under PECTA over his 295 perfume launch
Famous YouTuber Rajab Butt has again found himself at the center of a furore this time facing criminal movement under Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and Section 295-A of Pakistan Penal Code. The furore is due to Butt’s choice to name his new scent ‘295’ an open reference to Pakistan’s blasphemy law. Critics claim the title is a deliberate go to cause offense and generate publicity, while others interpret it as a creative expression gone too far.
The Allegations and Legal Action
The case was previously lodged at Nishtar Colony Police Station on the basis of Ramzan Bhatti and accused Butt of deliberately offending non secular sentiments thru the offensive name. According to Bhatti, via connecting the product with Section 295, Butt downplayed the sensitive subject of Pakistan’s blasphemy legislation. The drama intensified further when Butt linked the perfume to the late Indian singer Sidhu MooseWala, who had also faced criminal issues related to similar charges.
According to Section 295-A, a malicious and intentional act intended to cause outrage of religious feelings is punishable under law. If found guilty, Butt should be hit with severe criminal penalties, including another chapter to his already eventful career.
Butt’s History of Controversies
This is not the first time that Rajab Butt has faced public criticism. Throughout the years, he has been charged with violating Islamic morals in his work, carrying illegal weapons, and keeping personal animals other than valid permits. Even with these jail issues, Butt has been able to maintain a sizeable following, his bold and often provocative style earning him both praise and scorn.
Nonetheless, the perfume scandal appears to have gone over the edge for most. Social media shoppers and religious corporations have criticized Butt’s actions, demanding tougher blasphemy legislation enforcement. Some others are of the view that Butt’s aspiration of branding is beneath creative freedom and should now no longer be criminalized.
Public Backlash and Divided Opinions
The reaction from the public has been rapid and vociferous. While some of his supporters have come to the defense of Butt’s right to creative expression, others have called the cross insensitive and inflammatory. Religious groups have called for the product to be withdrawn from sale and for Butt to cause a formal apology.
Social media has become a war zone for conflicting opinions, with the hashtags #BoycottRajabButt and #295Controversy making the rounds. Legal experts have also chimed in, pointing out the delicate balance between freedom of expression and recognition of religious sentiments within Pakistan.
